Candle Care & Safety Tips

Candle burning inside bottle and leaf

At Shared Wick Candle Company, we take great pride in the care and craftsmanship that goes into each of our candles. Every candle is hand-poured with love, using sustainable materials and premium ingredients to ensure a clean, even burn and a long-lasting fragrance experience.

To help you enjoy your candle safely and to its fullest, we’ve gathered a few simple care tips below.

Before You Light

 • Trim your cotton wick to ¼ inch and wood wick ⅛ inch before each burn to ensure a clean, even flame and prevent soot or flickering.
• Always remove any wick trimmings or debris from the wax before lighting.
• Place your candle on a heat-resistant surface, away from drafts, curtains, and anything flammable.

• Because our candles are made with 100% natural soy wax, you may notice light frosting.  This is completely normal and does not affect the scent or burn.

While Burning

 • Allow your candle to melt completely across the surface on the first burn — this prevents tunneling and helps it burn evenly every time.
• Burn your candle for no more than 3–4 hours at a time.
• Never leave a burning candle unattended or within reach of pets or children.
• Keep candles spaced at least 3 inches apart if burning more than one.

After You Enjoy

 • Extinguish your candle gently using a snuffer or by dipping the wick into the wax, then straightening it again — this helps eliminate smoke and keeps the wick centered.
• Stop burning when about ½ inch of wax remains to prevent overheating the container.
• Once cooled, wipe away any residue, replace the lid, and store your candle in a cool, dry place until the next use.
